H-BC, AHS, EHS track squads compete in Slayton
Three track programs from the Star Herald coverage mixed it up at the Fulda Invitational in Slayton.
Competing in a 12-team field, the H-BC girls placed second as a team (82 points) and Adrian finished 11th (17 points).
Kourtney Rozeboom (35-0 ½ in the shot put) and Sadie Fuerstenberg (96-10 in the discus claimed individual titles for H-BC, while Paige Tilstra, Grace Bundesen, Sidney Fick and Taryn Rauk won the 400- and 1,600-meter relays with respective 54.45 and 4:20.41 times.
Morgan Penning turned in the top effort for Adrian by placing third in the 1,600-meter run in 6:09.58.
The H-BC boys placed sixth (40 ¼ points), EHS ninth (22 points) and Adrian 11th (17 points) in the team standings.
Zach Scholten won the high jump (5-10) for H-BC, Zach Bierman placed third in the 100-meter dash (12.13) to lead AHS and Sean Boltjes placed third in the 300-meter hurdles (45.1) to pace EHS.
Dragons record third consecutive RRC win
The Adrian baseball team upped its Red Rock Conference record to 3-0 with a 3-2 home win over Red Rock Central-Westbrook-Walnut Grove.
The Falcons led 2-0 before Adrian plated one run with a throwing error and Zach Loosbrock cracked a two-run double in the bottom of the fifth to clinch the win.
Alex Loosbrock pitched five innings of two-run ball to earn the win, while Landon Rogers tossed two innings of scoreless ball to record a save.
Zach Loosbrock and Jacob Stamer led AHS at the plate with two hits each.
H-BC boys drop golf match in Iowa
The Hills-Beaver Creek boys’ golf team came up on the short end of a 192-206 decision during a match it hosted against Southwest Christian-Edgerton at Meadow Acres Counrty Club near Larchwood, Iowa.
Preston Maassen paced the Patriots with a 48, while Dylon Taubert, Noah Hellerud and Thomas Dysthe added respective 51-, 53- and 54-stroke scores to the team tally.
H-BC and SWC-E fielded incomplete squads for the girls’ competition.
H-BC’s Tess Van Maanen led all players with a 51, while Hannah Fick carded a 59.
Adrian Area falls in eight innings
The Adrian Area softball team made a bid to pick up its first win of the year in Lamberton before falling in extra innings.
The Dragons sported an 8-4 lead after four and one-half innings of play, but Red Rock Central-Westbrook-Walnut Grove tied the score at eight in the bottom of the seventh inning before producing the winning run in the bottom of the eighth.
Devin Dreesen, who pitched seven-plus innings of 11-hit, six-strikeout ball to take the pitching loss, led AA with three hits.
Paige Bullerman (two RBIs) and Autumn Grussing added two hits each.
