Adrian boys post rare win at SWC
The Adrian boys’ basketball team posted a big early-season victory when it secured a 59-47 win over Southwest Christian in Edgerton.
The Dragons opened a 33-21 advantage in the first half and matched SWC’s scoring output of 26 points in the second half to prevail by 12 points.
Zach Hendel (20 points), Mitchell Lonneman (13 points and 10 rebounds), Jacob Stamer (four steals and five assists), Frank Serrao (three assists), Zach Bierman (four steals) and Ryan Wieneke (six rebounds) carried the Dragons to victory.
Patriots break through against Edgerton
The Hills-Beaver Creek boys’ basketball team snapped a two-game slide to open the season by securing a 70-53 home win over Edgerton.
H-BC rolled to a 36-20 lead in the first half and used a 34-33 scoring edge in the second half to prevail by 17 points.
Zach Scholten (19 points, 19 rebounds, six steals and four assists), Preston Wilhelmi (32 points and three steals), Isaiah Vis (eight rebounds and five assists), Jed Burgers (four assists and Trenton Bass (seven rebounds and four assists) led the Patriots to victory.
Raiders saddle Panther girls with setback
The Ellsworth girls’ basketball team came up on the short end of a 66-45 decision when the Panthers entertained Fulda in Ellsworth.
The visiting Raiders rolled to a 38-20 halftime advantage and outscored the Panthers 28-25 in the second half to ice a 21-point conquest.
Devin Dreesen (18 points and four steals), Hannah Kramer (10 points, 11 rebounds and five assists) and Ashlyn Meester (four steals) produced positive statistics for EHS.
