Seven Dragons, one Patriot make All-RRC golf squad
Golfers from Adrian and Hills-Beaver Creek High Schools made an impact at the annual Red Rock Conference Tournament staged Monday at the Worthington Country Club.
The event was shortened from 18 holes down to nine due to cool, wet and windy weather conditions that ruled the day.
The area athletes showed their resolve by landing eight positions on All-RRC rosters at event’s end.
Four boys and three girls made the all-league squad for Adrian, which placed second as a team in both the boys’ and girls’ fields.
H-BC, which finished fourth out of nine teams in boys’ competition, placed one player on the All-RRC roster.
Led by Adam Christensen’s medal-earning round of 38 strokes, Murray County Central topped Adrian (170-176) to claim the boys’ team title.
Westbrook-Walnut Grove (196), H-BC (198), Fulda (199), Mountain Lake Area (206), Red Rock Central (207), Heron Lake-Okabena (230) and Southwest Christian (242) capped the field.
Adrian’s Ben Henning (third with a 41), Ryan Elias (tied for fourth with a 42), Brady Henning (ninth with a 46) and Collin Kemper (tied for 10th with a 47) made the all-league team.
Tommy McCarthy and Mitchell Veld shot 49s for the Dragons without impacting the team scoring.
Stuart Plimpton led the Patriot boys to their fourth-place finish as a team by shooting a 44 to earn an all-conference position.
Plimpton placed seventh individually.
Preston Maassen and Justin Sandbulte added 48- and 49-stroke scores to H-BC’s team tally, while Braden Ellingson and Anthony Ackerman shot 57s.
Noah Holthaus carded a 58 for the Patriots.
Other players making the All-RRC squad included MCC’s Grant Everson (40), Tyler Groves (45), Brad Schneiber (47) and Jack Pierson (47), MLA's Aaron Walzak (42), E-SWC’s Jay DeBoer (42) and Fulda’s Brandon Everett.
Led by a medal-earning round of 44 strokes by Abby Herding, W-WG nipped Adrian 206-208 to win the girls’ team title.
HL-O (230), MCC (231), Fulda (237) and RRC (284) round out the six-team girls’ field.
Alexia Kemper (tied for second with a 47), Katie Wieneke (fifth with a 49) and Mackenzie Wagner (eighth with a 54) made the All-RRC squad for the Dragons.
Jada Elias capped the team scoring with a 58.
Adrian’s Madelyn Odell and Courtney Penning and shot 61- and 89-stroke rounds without impacting the scoring.
Other girls making the all-league team include HL-O’s Kailey Wendland (47), W-WG’s Brittany Erickson (48) and Deziree Koenig (56), MCC’s Liz Prahm (53), Fulda’s Caitlin Strenge (53) and MCC’s Abby Hamman (56).
