AA wins postseason opener in dramatic fashion
The Adrian Area softball team extended its season in dramatic fashion Friday in Ellsworth.
AA, the eighth seed in the South Section 3A Softball Tournament, trailed No. 9 Red Rock Central-Westbrook-Walnut Grove by two runs after six and one-half innings of play.
The Dragons, however, scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh to force extra innings and won the game 3-2 when Devin Dreesen belted a home run in the ninth inning.
The win sends 5-16 AA to Edgerton Tuesday, where they take on No. 1 Edgerton-Southwest Christian in another elimination game.
Dreesen, who won the game against the Falcons with her bat, also turned in a solid nine-inning, nine-hit pitching performance to get the win.
After surrendering two runs to RRC-W-WG in the third inning, Dreesen blanked the Falcons over the final six frames.
The Dragons started their comeback in the seventh inning when Olivia Weidert delivered an RBI single before Alicia Lunt tied the game with a run-scoring double.
Dreesen settled the issue when she lined a one-out home run over the left-center field fence in the ninth inning.
Dreesen and Madisyn Dingmann led the Dragons with two hits in the game, while Lunt, Weidert, Brooke Grussing and Madison Neuenberg added one hit each to the winning cause.
