By John RittenhouseThe capture of five feature titles highlighted a successful weekend for area racecar drivers.The feature wins came on four different tracks, with one local competitor posting two victories.Ellsworth’s Greg Roemen was the big winner over the weekend.Roemen, a competitor in the sportsman class, won feature titles at Rapid Speedway (Rock Rapids, Iowa) Friday and at Lake County Speedway (Madison, S.D.) Saturday.For Roemen, it was his fifth feature win in Rock Rapids and his first victory in Madison this season.Another Ellsworth driver joined Roemen in the winner’s circle at Rapid Speedway.Adam Jenniges, a factory stock driver, won his third feature title of the season at the track.Ash Creek’s Marlin Kracht and former Rock County resident Darrin Korthals posted feature wins at other tracks.Kracht drew the checkered flag during the A modified feature race at Murray County Speedway in Slayton Friday. Korthals won the late model street stock feature at Huset’s Speedway, near Brandon, S.D., Sunday.The Luverne-Hills-Beaver Creek team remains in first place in team competition after two weeks of action at Thunder Valley Dragway in Marion, S.D.L-H-BC leads a 12-team field with 4,160 points, which leaves it with a 920-point lead over second-place Lake Preston (3,240 points).Josh Fick turned in a solid performance for L-H-BC, advancing to the semifinals of the high school shoot-out Saturday.Alex Wiese, Michael Hup and Dave Hup turned in solid efforts in Marion as non-members of the L-H-BC squad. Wiese, the defending track champion in the junior dragster division, won a title race in the same division Saturday. Michael Hup took top honors in the teen championship race.
