•Vince Gacke has opened the doors of his new restaurant business on Highway 75, across from Sharkee’s. Vinnie has tentative hours of 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. but that could change, as things are just getting underway. Right now, he and his children are hoping more employees will join them at the business. “The kids have been great,” Gacke said. “They just jumped right in.”
Gacke said he will figure things out as he goes along, but that the response from patrons has been surprising so far. Open just a week, he said lunch hours have already been very busy. People have commented on the attractive design (including the copper-fronted bar Gacke designed and built) and well-rounded menu.

•Elmer Saarloos is grinning from ear to ear.
For three years the bridge connecting his farm to his farmland has been closed. Now it’s open and the 14-mile trip Saarloos had to make to get to his fields across the Rock River is a fading memory.
The story of the closed bridge began in December of 1988 when a drunk driver struck bridge #67512 on County Road 59 three miles south of Luverne.

•Rock County farmers can seal their 1966 crop soybeans at $2.45 per bushel. This represents an increase of 28¢ per bushel over the 1965 rate of $2.17.
Soybeans can be sealed on the farm or in the warehouse. If they are stored in the warehouse, storage rates will be deducted from the $2.45 base price.
All farmers are eligible for soybean loans. Participation in the Feed Grain program is not a requirement for soybean price support loans.
