The bond will pay for the Fire Hall expansion and remodeling project and renovations for the former hospital to be occupied by Minnesota West Community and Technical College.

•Two interested parties attended a gathering at the vets addition last week.
The informational meeting was called to answer any questions prospective buyers might have concerning the new lots that go up for bids at the end of the month.
The road and utilities to the 33 lots began last week and are expected to be completed by the end of August.
 
50 years ago (1966)
•Independence Day 1966 will be celebrated in Luverne with a baseball game and fireworks. ...
A big fireworks display will start at 10:15 p.m. Monday (DST) at the Luverne High school athletic field.
The Fourth of July celebration will be preceded by a baseball game between Luverne and Slayton in a First Night League contest beginning at 5:45 p.m. ...
Luverne businessmen have made the fireworks show possible.
 
75 years ago (1941)
•The first annual Sports and Field Day, sponsored by the Rock County Chapter of the Sportsmen’s club will be next Sunday, June 29, at the club grounds, 1 ½ miles south of Luverne. A full day of sporting events has been planned by the club, and sport enthusiasts from Minnesota, Iowa, Nebraska and South Dakota will be here to take part in the day’s activities.
The day’s biggest attraction will be the retriever trials, in which prize dogs from a wide area have already been entered. The trials will be divided into two classes, the novice stake for dogs that have never placed in previous retriever trials, and the open all-age stake, which will be open to any dog that retrieves.

•The people of Luverne and vicinity are to be asked to do their share towards providing adequate supplies for the proper care and comfort of Minnesota’s soldiers now being sent to the Mexican front.
In response to a proclamation issued by Governor Burnquist, Mayor J. W. Hawkinson on Wednesday appointed Mrs. A. D. LaDue and Mrs. C. H. Christopherson as a committee to solicit funds for the purpose stated.
