•Although counting has been a normal part of her job at the Rock County Courthouse for 26 years, auditor/treasurer Gloria Rolfs has not been counting down the days to her last day in the office.
Rolfs and her staff have been busy with elections, tax statements and the 2009 audit, among normal responsibilities.
She will be working right up until her last day as a county employee. In January 2011 deputy accountant Ashley Kurtz will continue in the auditor/treasurer position.

•It’s a new plan for a new year.
A public informational meeting on a new airport layout plan is scheduled for 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 4, in council chambers at Luverne City Hall.
Meeting notices were printed Dec. 14 and 21 in the Star Herald, and affected residents will receive letters about the meeting, according to City Clerk Marianne Ouverson. The meeting was requested by the Airport Board.
The plan still allows for a 4,200-foot runway, but the new runway is proposed to be located 1,400 feet farther to the north than the previous plan approved by the Minnesota Department of Transportation and the Federal Aviation Administration.
Ron Roetzel, the Bolton and Menk consultant who’s been working on the plan since September 1993, will be on hand to explain the new layout plan.

•Five out of a total of eight birds shown by A. R. Olson and C. H. Moreaux, won prizes, including two first awards, at the 35th annual Minnesota State poultry show held at Minneapolis December 8th to 12th, according to the official report received this week.
The Luverne fanciers of standard bred poultry did not decide to enter any birds until the day before the entries closed, which prevented the customary conditioning of the birds to be shown.
Each exhibitor sent only four birds with only one entry in any single class, Mr. Olson showing a cockered and pullet in Single Combed Mottled Anconas, a similar pair in Rose Combed Anconas. Mr. Moreaux’s exhibit consisted of a Single Combed Buff Leghorn cockerel and pullet and a Single Combed White Leghorn cockerel and hen.
In selecting the winners the judges awarded Mr. Olson first prize on cockerel and third prize on pullet in Rose Combed Anconas, and third prize on pullet in Single Combed Anconas. Mr. Moreaux won first prize on pullet and third on cockerel in Single Combed Buff Leghorns.
