•Rock countians will turn their clocks ahead one hour next Saturday night, because daylight savings begins Sunday, April 24.
The change of time to “fast time” begins seven weeks earlier than usual because of the passage last week of a national law, putting daylight time in effect in all of the 50 states, starting next year. However, those states which now have state laws governing daylight time must now observe the same beginning and ending dates. Minnesota’s law covered the period from the last Sunday in May through Labor Day. Most other states ran from the last Sunday in April through the last Sunday in October. Now, all states will observe the period from the last Sunday in April through October.

•The intersection of Main street and Kniss avenue, which is also the intersection of Trunk Highways Nos. 16 and 75, is soon to be adorned with a “flash beacon” hung in the center of the intersection at a height of 14 feet, according to word received by the City Council from the Minnesota Highway department. The highway department will provide the beacon, and the city will install and maintain it.
The purpose of the beacon is to promote greater safety at this busy corner by giving motorists on No. 75 more adequate warning of the street than is provided by the stop signs at the sides of the street.
