10 years ago (2005)
•Southwest Minnesota was in the thick of a wintry storm Tuesday as temperatures plunged and snow fell horizontally.
Even though total snow accumulation wasn’t that remarkable, wind chill was recorded at minus 20 degrees by early Wednesday morning.
 
20 years ago (1995)
•City crews have been working steadily to deck the streets of Luverne with Christmas spirit. According to the Chamber of Commerce, which purchased new wreaths for city light poles last year, 16 additional wreaths and pole wraps were purchased this year at $375 per pole.
 
50 years ago (1965)
•A happy winner is Mrs. Lois Wenzel who won the title of “Miss Flav-o-rite Candy of 1965” and a check for $1,000 in the competition held thruout the Super Valu store organization.
 
75 years ago (1940)
•Turkey raisers in particular, and farmers in general in Rock county suffered heavy losses in Monday’s storm. The loss to turkeys is expected to reach 25,000 while scattered reports indicate losses of horses, cattle and sheep will reach the 200 mark.
 
100 years ago (1915)
•Dunbar Brothers’ store in Beaver Creek was again visited by burglars Monday night and an unknown quantity of goods taken. The thieves gained entrance through a window in a rear room of the building and entered the store proper by breaking out a panel of a door between the two rooms.
