•Luverne’s Stacy Mente served as spokesperson for a room full of parents who attended the Thursday, May 12, School Board meeting.
She’s among roughly 110 kindergarten families in the district deciding whether to enroll their children in Kinder Plus. It’s an afternoon program the Luverne district offered after the all day every day program was cut last month.

•An organized drive for funding to build an indoor ice rink and hockey playing facility is about to be launched by the Luverne Hockey Association.
Bill Ketterling, association president, announced that after a series of weekly meetings with parents of Luverne children, fund-raising plans are going ahead. ... Estimated cost of the structure ... is $350,000.

•Les Murphy, of Les’ Foodland announced yesterday that everything will be in readiness for business in his new location (now NAPA Auto Parts), just south of the Luverne Federal Savings and Loan building (now Rock County Community Library).
Workmen have been busy since the closing of Les’ Piggly Wiggly Saturday night, moving stock and fixtures.

•A rare treat is in store for those attending the cooking school at the Luverne Armory Thursday and Friday of next week. In addition to hearing that most interesting home economics expert, Mrs. Olga Hanscomb, ... the Star has booked ... the Williams Piano Company, of Sioux Falls, to give a half hour concert of operatic and classical music before each demonstration.
