10 years ago (2005)
•A small crowd gathered in Kenneth Tuesday night as the elevator property was sold on a public auction. On the auction block were the elevator, two big storage bins, a small 40-by-120-foot shed and a large 80-by-140-foot storage shed. Dean Tofteland paid $35,000 for the elevator and storage bins, and Dennis Pick bought the small shed to the west for $7,500.

•The Luverne School Board Thursday approved a $6,350,403 budget. Superintendent Norman Miller said the 1990-1 budget grew $279,281 from last year, an increase of 4.07 percent.

•Mr. and Mrs. Francis Wilson will observe their 10th anniversary as owners and operators of the A and W Drive In, south on 75, this weekend.

•Southwestern Minnesota’s first air hostess is Miss Maxine Greenhagen, of Luverne, who has just been selected by Transcontinental and Western Air, Inc., to fly in the airline’s 21-passenger transports from Kansas City to Albuquerque.

•As one layer after another of Luverne pressed brick is being mortarized into the fast growing walls of Luverne’s new play house – the New Palace theatre – even the most casual observer is able to appreciate the vast improvement which the erection of this block will make to the business section of the city. ...
It is estimated that the bricklayers will require about two weeks more time to complete their task, for the walls will be approximately thirty-eight feet high, except those of the stage, which will be fifty feet high — this additional height being necessary in order to permit the raising of the scenery and curtains without rolling.
