10 years ago (2005)
•A few weeks have passed since Rock County’s Relay for Life was held. It was a great event at our beautiful city park with great weather. The event raised more than $75,000 for American Cancer Society.
 
25 years ago (1995)
•In an overwhelming vote of approval, members of the Magnolia and Luverne co-op elevators decided to proceed with the planned merger of the two co-ops. About 90 percent of the Luverne members voted yes, and more than 85 percent of the Magnolia members voted yes. Only a two-thirds majority vote was needed to pass the merger.
 
50 years ago (1965)
•Plans to construct a new express way type service station at the junction of Interstate 90 and U.S. 75, south of Luverne were announced this week. According to Earl Wilkens, district sales representative for Texaco, of Sioux Falls, The Christensen Corporation, Luverne, has been awarded the contract for the two-bay porcelain enamel structure that will go up on the north-west corner of the interchange.
 
75 years ago (1940)
 •Laying the dust on dirt streets, cleaning up the refuse on paved thoroughfares and quenching fires, constitutes the versatility of the city’s new motorized flushing and sprinkling unit, which has passed all of its tests, and is now in daily operation over the city’s streets.
 
100 years ago (1915)
•That one person out of every twelve people in Rock county now owns an automobile is a fact substantiated by the reports of the various assessors of Rock county and the records of sales of automobile dealers in Luverne. In other words, taking the accepted theory as to the average size of a family, approximately one-half of all the families in Rock county are supplied with autoes.
