School news for Sept. 21, 2017
Luverne High School senior Hans Bakken was recently named a “commended student” in the 2018 National Merit Scholarship Program.
Bakken joins about 34,000 other commended students throughout the U.S. He placed in the top 50,000 scorers among the more than 1.6 million students who entered the 2018 competition by taking the 2016 preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test.
As a commended student, Bakken may qualify for special scholarships provided by the test sponsors. He does not advance in the merit scholarship competition, however.
Bakken is the son of Paul and Jennifer Bakken, rural Luverne.
