Stratton awarded DSU Champion Scholarship

Logan Stratton of Luverne High School was awarded the DSU Champion Scholarship. This scholarship is awarded to high-achieving students based on ACT scores and high school GPA.

Stratton will be attending Dakota State University in Madison, South Dakota, and plans to major in cyber operations.


Minnesota West honors area students

Minnesota West in Worthington recognized the following students for outstanding achievements during the Spring Academic Awards Banquet.

Thompson named to Honor Society at SDSU

Brent Thompson was initiated into the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi at South Dakota State University at a spring banquet and ceremony. Juniors in the upper 5 percent and seniors in the upper 10 percent ranking of their classes are invited.

Brent is the son of Bill and Sherri Thompson, Luverne.


Javner honored at U of M Crookston

Dalton Javner, Hardwick was presented with the Student Orientation Staff Service Award at an awards program in late April at the University of Minnesota Crookston.

Javner, a health sciences major, was recognized for his leadership and service.


Area students graduate from SMSU Marshall May 6

Several area students graduated from Southwest Minnesota State University in Marshall Saturday, May 6.

Samantha Voss, Adrian, received a Master of Science degree in education.

Emilie Baartman, Brandon, South Dakota, graduated magna cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts degree in theatre arts and a Bachelor of Science degree in broadcast communications.

Ben Fick, Luverne, received a Bachelor of Arts degree in professional writing and communication.

Josey Arends, Luverne, graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in social work.

Matthew Overgaard, Luverne, received a Bachelor of Science degree in agribusiness management.

Tanner Paulsen, Hills, earned a Bachelor of Science degree in management.

Stacy Olson, Hardwick, earned a Bachelor of Science degree in educational studies.

Alex Weis, Luverne, graduated magna cum laude with a Bachelor of Science degree in physical education/teaching.


Kienholz and Knutson graduate from Northwestern

Kristen Kienholz and Klint Knutson earned degrees at Northwestern College commencement ceremonies Saturday, May 13.

Kienholz, the daughter of Bryan and Patricia Kienholz of Luverne, graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology.

Knutson graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts degree in biology health professions. He is the son of Kristi Knutson, Magnolia.
