Vivian Louise Helgeson, 82, Blackduck, died Monday, Dec. 4, 2017, at the Good Samaritan Society in Blackduck.
A memorial service was Saturday, Dec. 9, at Zion Lutheran Church in Blackduck with inurnment in the Lakeview Cemetery in Blackduck.
Vivian Rye was born on June 18, 1935, to Gullick and Emma (Thompson) Rye in Luverne. She was baptized and confirmed in Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Hills. She was raised and attended school in Hills, graduating in 1953. She then worked at the local grocery store in Hills and in an optical shop in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
She married Donald Helgeson on Aug. 28, 1955, in Hills. They lived on and farmed the Rye family farm until 1971 when they moved to Tenstrike, where they owned and operated Cedar Rapids Lodge on Medicine Lake for 17 years. In 1987 they moved to Big Sky, Montana, where they enjoyed downhill and cross country skiing and hiking in the mountains. Vivian worked at Buck’s T-4 Lodge and in a deli while living there. In September of 1991 they returned to northern Minnesota to be closer to the grandchildren, living first in Hines and then moving to Bemidji in 2007. Vivian and Don moved to Blackduck in June of 2010 to the Good Samaritan Society.
Vivian was active in Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Hills, and Zion Lutheran Church in Blackduck. She was a past member of the Hills American Legion Auxiliary, Bemidji Chamber of Commerce and Resort Association, and the Lady Slipper Homemakers Club. She enjoyed golfing and bowling.
Vivian is survived by four daughters, Jewel (Dan) Rockensock, Blackduck, Emily Helgeson and Linda (David Tisdell) Helgeson, both of Bemidji, and Jennifer (John) Anderson, Tenstrike; eight grandchildren, Teresa (Wayne) Hawkinson, Andover, Aaron (Courtney) Dreyer, Elk River, Breanne Dreyer, Bemidji, Tanner Dremmel, Lake George, Seth Dremmel, Bemidji, Taylor Tisdell, Nashville, Tennessee, and Dominic Anderson and Benjamin Anderson, Tenstrike; six great-grandchildren; a brother, Glenn Rye, Sun City West, Arizona; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Helgeson in August of 2010; a grandson, Brett Rockensock; her parents; two brothers, Norris and Raymond Rye; three sisters, Opal Nelson, Eldora Bakk and Beverly Nerison; and three infant brothers.
