Virginia Mae Gerken, 94, Luverne, died Tuesday, Feb. 2, 2016, at the Sanford Luverne Hospice Cottage.
A funeral service was Saturday, Feb. 6, at St. Catherine Catholic Church in Luverne.
Virginia Gerken was born July 22, 1921, to Hubert and Rose (Kramer) Gerken in Adrian. She was baptized and later confirmed at St. Adrian Catholic Church in Adrian. Virginia received her education and graduated from St. Adrian High School in 1939. She then moved to Luverne and was employed for Cora Hilger. In 1942 she became employed at First National Bank, which became U.S. Bank, and then later became First Farmers and Merchants Bank. She worked in various capacities at the bank until her retirement in 1986.
Virginia was a member of St. Catherine Catholic Church in Luverne. She was very dedicated to her church during her life and was a part of LCCW, taught Sunday school, and volunteered on many committees throughout the church. Virginia also served on the Luverne Community Hospital Board. She enjoyed bowling, sewing and knitting. She loved dogs, especially poodles.
Virginia is survived by her nieces and nephews, Michael (Rosemarie) Reker of Luverne, Kathleen Reker of Worthington, Jay (Glee) Reker of Phoenix, Arizona, Mark (Marjean) Reker of New Brighton, Ann (Bernard) Horak of Egan, Friar Timothy Reker of Mankato, Mary (Jeffrey) Mowery of Libertyville, Illinois, Joseph Reker of Appleton, Wisconsin, and Amy (Richard) Lynch of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; 19 great-nieces and great-nephews; 12 great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews and other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Marjorie (Alvin) Reker; a brother, Charles Gerken.
