Ruth Joann Roemeling, 86, Luverne, died Tuesday, June 29, 2021, at Sanford Luverne Hospice in Luverne.
A funeral service was conducted Saturday, July 3, 2021, at St. John Lutheran Church, Luverne. Burial was in Memory Gardens Cemetery, Luverne.
Ruth was born May 26, 1935, to Joe and Jeannette (Post) Berghorst.
She moved with her parents to Magnolia in 1941 and Beaver Creek in 1948 before settling in Luverne in 1952. She graduated from Beaver Creek High School in 1952.
Ruth married Merle Roemeling on Oct. 29, 1954, at St. John Lutheran Church.
Ruth lived on SW Park Street in Luverne for 60 years, where she made lifelong, lasting friendships with her neighbors.
She worked at Northwestern Bell from 1952-1981. She then worked for Rose Dell Insurance from 1984-1987. In 1987, she became a customer service representative for FerrellGas. She retired in 2005.
She fought cancer for more than 15 years.
Ruth was a member of St. John, serving on the Chancel Guild, Little Lambs board, women’s society, funeral committee and various circles. She participated in Relay for Life, delivered Meals on Wheels, Sanford Luverne hospital and hospice cottage volunteer.
Ruth is survived by her children, David (Pamela) Roemeling, Wichita, Kansas, Bradley (Susan) Roemeling, Salem, Oregon, Nancy (Michael) Olsen, Oakton, Virginia, and Kris Roemeling, Sioux Falls; siblings, Theodore (Bonnie) Berghorst, Beaver Creek, Thelma Symanietz, Omaha, Nebraska, and Kathy (Charlie) Ruud, Sioux Falls; 12 grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Merle; siblings, Joel Berghorst, Henry Berghorst, Mill Sweezy, Sharon Flatequal, Barbara Flanigan, and her parents.
