Rosella M. McCorkell, 91, Luverne, died Saturday, Nov. 21, 2015, at Sanford Foundation Hospice Cottage in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
A funeral service was Saturday, Nov. 28, at the Dingmann Funeral Home in Luverne with burial at New Woodlawn Cemetery in Pipestone.
Rosella Smeins was born May 28, 1924, to Mike and Eva (Schmit) Meyers near Chamberlain, South Dakota. She grew up in the Chamberlain area and attended country school. In 1937 she moved with her parents to Montrose, South Dakota. She accepted her Christian faith in 1946.
On Jan. 26, 1947, Rosie married Vernon Smeins. They farmed in the Holland area. They had three children, Mary, Jack and Betty. Her husband, Vernon, died March 22, 1984. She moved to Sioux Falls in 1986 and did housework, babysitting, worked in a craft store and in a meat locker system. In 1992 she married Bruce McCorkell, and in 1993 they moved to Luverne.
Rosie will be remembered for her home-cooked meals and especially for her caramel rolls.
She is survived by her children, Mary (Chris) Genna, Seattle, Washington, Jack (Leanne) Smeins, Holland, Betty (Dick) Moss, Sioux Falls, South Dakota; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; three step-children, Harlan (Linda) McCorkell, Mankato, Larry (Virginia) McCorkell, Blaine, Lois (Tim) Holman, Liberty Lake, Washington, their children and grandchildren; her sisters, Mary (Si) DeJonge, Sister Michelle Meyers and special friend Sister Kay O’Neil; and many other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands, Vernon Smeins in 1984 and Bruce McCorkell in 2008; an infant sister; and four brothers and one sister.
