Priscilla “Cilla” Spykerboer, 91, Ellsworth, died Monday, Sept. 28, 2020, at Lyon Specialty Care in Rock Rapids, Iowa.
A private family service was Thursday, Oct. 1, at Jurrens Funeral Home in Rock Rapids, Iowa. Burial followed at Riverview Cemetery in Rock Rapids.
Priscilla Kelderman was born on May 4, 1929, to Henry and Tena (Drost) Kelderman in rural Colton, South Dakota. She was the eighth of 13 children. She attended country schools in Hull and Doon and graduated from eighth grade at Doon Christian School.
Priscilla married Bert Spykerboer on Nov. 29, 1950, at the Doon Christian Reformed Church. Following their marriage, they lived on acreages southwest of Luverne before moving to their farm near Ellsworth in 1965. She continued to live on the farm after her husband, Bert, died on Feb. 11, 2005. In 2019, two days before her 90th birthday, Priscilla moved to the Lyon County Specialty Nursing Home in Rock Rapids.
Priscilla was a member of the Luverne Christian Reformed Church for 69 years. She was a hard-working farm wife and a good cook, attested to by many guests who enjoyed her good food. Her grandchildren enjoyed her homemade angel food cakes, macaroni and cheese, pumpkin bread and almond patties. Priscilla also enjoyed embroidery work and bowling. She taught herself to play the piano by ear. She also enjoyed attending sales at Jason’s barns and eating at the café. She always cherished visits from family and enjoyed coffee time with anyone anywhere.
Priscilla is survived by her five children, Carol (Chris) Boom of Larchwood, Kevin (Paula) Spykerboer of Rock Rapids, Marilyn (Greg) Brommer of Rock Rapids, David (Amy) Spykerboer of Beaver Creek, and Jason Spykerboer of Ellsworth; 11 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; one sister, Jeanette Lems of Doon, Iowa; a sister-in-law, Audrey Kelderman of Rock Valley; sister-in-law/brother-in-law John and Mary Brands of Edgerton; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Bert; six brothers, Al, Hank, Lawrie, Don, Alvin and Walter in infancy; five sisters, Wilma, Caroline, Tena, Dorothy and Wilmanette.
