Pearl Nellie Schomacker, 89, Luverne, died Monday, Jan. 7, 2019, at the Sanford Luverne Hospice Cottage in Luverne.
A funeral service was Friday, Jan. 11, at the Hartquist Funeral Home in Luverne.
Pearl Boeve was born to William and Hattie Boeve on June 19, 1929, on the family farm in Rock Rapids, Iowa. She was raised on the farm and attended country school near Rock Rapids through the fifth grade. Her family then moved to a farm near Larchwood, Iowa, where she completed her schooling at Klondike country school. After her schooling, she remained living and helping on the family farm.
Pearl married Roy Schomacker on Feb. 26, 1947, in Rock Rapids when he returned home from serving in the United States Navy. The couple made their residence on a farm near Doon, Iowa. In 1955 they moved to a farm in Vienna Township near Luverne, and in 1964 Pearl and Roy moved to a farm in Battle Plain Township in Rock County. Up to this time Pearl was a homemaker to their seven children. In 1980 she began working as a nurse’s aide in the nursery at the Luverne Community Hospital. One year later the couple moved into Luverne. Roy died in January 1993. In 1995 Pearl retired from the hospital, and in May of 2004 she moved from her house into the Centennial Apartments in Luverne.
Pearl enjoyed crocheting, sewing, reading, fixing puzzles, and playing cards. She cherished spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Pearl is survived by five children, LeRoy (Glenda) Schomacker of Luverne, Sharon Stamp of Dell Rapids, South Dakota, Roger (Pamela) Schomacker of Duluth, Bryce (Ginger) Schomacker of Luverne, and Randy (Sharon) Schomacker of Luverne; a daughter-in-law, Ruth Schomacker; a brother, Avor (Lucille) Boeve of Dell Rapids; sisters-in-law Grace Boeve of Luverne and Hattie Boeve of Vilzalia, California; 16 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy; two sons, Jerry and Milo; three brothers, Albert Boeve, Dick Boeve, and John Boeve; one sister, Jennie Boeve; and one son-in-law, Rob Stamp.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the American Cancer Society and American Diabetes Association.
