Miriam Joyce Hansen, 84, formerly of Hardwick, died Monday, Oct. 10, 2016, at Temperance Lake Ridge Assisted Living in Sherburn.
A funeral service was Friday, Oct. 14, at Zion Lutheran Church in Hardwick. Burial followed at Memory Gardens Cemetery near Luverne.
Miriam Rasmussen was born Dec. 7, 1931, to David and Virginia (Clark) Rasmussen in Winnebago. She attended school in Detroit Lakes and graduated in 1949. Miriam graduated from Detroit Lakes Business College in 1950 and began working as a secretary at the First National Bank of Detroit Lakes.
In 1953 Miriam married Robert Ault in Detroit Lakes. The couple had four sons and later divorced. Miriam began working at the Welcome State Bank in Welcome in 1954. Ten years later she became the secretary to the superintendent of schools in Welcome and from 1970-1975 the secretary to the superintendent of schools in Round Lake.
She married Donald Hansen on Dec. 7, 1974, in Valley Springs, South Dakota. The couple settled in Hardwick, and from 1975-1980 Miriam worked in the superintendent’s office in Luverne.
In 1980 the couple moved to Boulder, Colorado, and Miriam was employed as an abstract coordinator by the Geological Society of America. Miriam officially retired in 1998, and the couple returned to Hardwick. In January 2014 Don and Miriam moved to Parkview Manor in Ellsworth. Don died Dec. 30, 2014. A short time later, Miriam moved to Temperance Lake Ridge Assisted Living in Sherburn.
Miriam was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Hardwick. She also belonged to the American Legion Auxiliary in Hardwick.
She is survived by three sons, Dan Ault and his friend Cinde Issac of Fairmont, Mark Ault and his friend Lavonne Campbell of Baltic, South Dakota, and David Ault of Mankato; a daughter-in-law, Clair Ault of Gurnee, Illinois; two stepsons, Dale (Lorna) Hansen of Burnsville and Gordon “Sam” (Joyce) Hansen of Hardwick; a stepdaughter-in-law, Alice Hansen of Hardwick; seven grandchildren, Kris, Brian, Christopher, Heather, Daniel, Sarah and Nicolle; five stepgrandchildren; one stepgreat-grandson; a sister, Patricia Mitchell of Herford, Arizona; and other relatives.
Miriam was preceded in death by her husband, Don Hansen; a son, Dale Ault; a stepson, Ronald Hansen; her parents; and two siblings, Margaret Richard and Richard Rasmussen.
