Marvin Schettler

Marvin “Pat” Schettler, 71, died March 21, 2017, at his home in Wilmont.

A funeral mass was Saturday, March 25, at Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church in Wilmont. Burial was in the Calvary Cemetery in Wilmont.

Marvin “Pat” Schettler was born March 17, 1946, to August and Regina (Becker) Schettler in Bloom Township. He attended Wilmont Catholic School. He then helped his dad on the family farm east of Wilmont.

Pat married Sharon Showalter on Nov. 19, 1966, at Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church in Wilmont. They lived in Wilmont until January 1967 when they began farming west of Wilmont until 1985. In 1988 they moved to their current home in Wilmont. Pat continued to work construction and retired from Behr Enterprises in 2001.

He was a lifelong member of Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church and a member of the Wilmont Senior Citizens. He enjoyed farming, camping, fishing and gardening with his wife. He enjoyed time with his grandchildren. He was known for his gift of gab.

Pat is survived by his wife, Sharon, Wilmont; four sons, Tim (Colleen) Schettler, Browerville; Mark (Maradee) Schettler, Lismore; Patrick (Sharon) Schettler, Eden Valley; and Michael (Toni) Schettler, Adrian; a daughter, Diana (Jeremy) Nelson, Reading; a son-in-law, Mike Lange, Adrian;  19 grandchildren, Trysten (Tyler) Olson, Tasha (Kyler) Spykerboer, Tom Slater, Samantha (Willie) Kruse, Brad Schettler, Matthew Schettler (Emily), Megan (Andrew) Johnson, Zachery (Brittany) Schettler, Kimberly Ose, DJ Ose, Darrin Ose, Seth Schettler, Colin Schettler, Anthony Schettler, Evan Schettler, Lexie Schettler, Lauren Nelson, Lane Nelson, and Leah Nelson; six great-grandchildren; four brothers, Donnie (Paula) Schettler, Currie; Alan (Jeri) Schettler, Rushmore; John (Diane) Schettler, Wilmont; Jim (Sandy) Schettler, Wilmont; and a sister, Carol (Steve) Erickson, St. James.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Tammy Lange; and his parents-in-law, Eldon and Thelma Showalter.
