Mark Edward Devinney, 63, Rapid City, South Dakota, died Wednesday, Oct. 11, 2017, at the Fort Meade, Virginia, Hospice.
A funeral Mass was Monday, Oct. 16, 2017, at Blessed Sacrament Church in Rapid City, South Dakota, followed by burial with military honors at the Black Hills National Cemetery.
Mark Devinney was born April 19, 1954, to James and Patricia (Walsh) Devinney in Luverne. He grew up in Hardwick until the family moved. He graduated from Willmar Senior High School in 1972. Upon graduation, Mark enlisted in the United States Army. He was honorably discharged after serving 17 years. He then worked for MCI and several other companies over the years.
Even though Mark loved playing in the snow as a child growing up in Minnesota, once he found the warmth of the South, he spent most of his life there. In recent years, he moved to Rapid City to be near family.
Mark is survived by two daughters, Marcie (Tomasz) Piotrowska, High Point, North Carolina, and Myra Devinney, Scottsdale, Arizona; three grandchildren; four sisters, Pauline (Steven) Staufacker, Camille (Charles) Callahan, Julia (Shawn) Bitz, all of Rapid City, and Jamielyn (Dale) Sauvage, Helena, Alabama; an aunt, Betty Devinney, Bloomington; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
