Marcus Jay Emery, 26, Luverne, died unexpectedly on Tuesday, Dec. 8, 2020, at his home.
A funeral service was Saturday, Dec. 12, at the United Methodist Church in Luverne. Burial with military honors followed at Maplewood Cemetery in Luverne.
Marcus Emery was born on March 26, 1994, in Luverne. He was raised by his mother, Sandi Emery, and attended Luverne Public Schools, graduating in 2012.
In June of 2011 Marcus enlisted in the United States National Guard. He was proud of his time with fellow service members and welcomed the camaraderie and teamwork. While serving in the Guard, he received the Army Achievements Medal, the Army Reserves Component Achievements Medal, the National Defense Service Medal and Army Service Ribbon, the Minnesota Good Conduct Ribbon, and the Minnesota Service Ribbon. He currently held the specialist rank.
Following his basic training, Marcus worked for Gary Frodermann on G&S Farms. In May of 2017 Marcus began working in the plumbing assembly with fire trucks at Midwest Fire in Luverne.
Marcus enjoyed attending gun shows, playing paintball, gaming, tinkering with his trucks, and golfing with his uncles and aunt. He loved spending time with his brothers and fishing with his grandfather and great-grandfather. He enjoyed his mother’s good cooking. He was known for his sense of determination, strong work ethic, his kindness, and being a good listener.
Marcus is survived by his mother, Sandi Emery, and Nick Reisch of Luverne; his brothers, Sam Emery and Rocco Reisch of Luverne; his grandmother, JoAnn Emery of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; his grandparents, Mark and Debbie Emery of Luverne; an aunt, Tami (Kyle) Van Heerde of Sioux Falls; two uncles, Jay Dee Emery of Sioux Falls and Joe Emery of Mitchell, South Dakota; and other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his great-grandparents, Howard and Mary Emery, and Ralph Jensen and Jackie Losen; and a great-uncle, Tom Emery.
