Loren Wiese, 88, of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, died Monday, January 1, 2024, at Pleasant Acres Nursing Home in Hull, Iowa.

Visitation will be from 4-6 p.m. Thursday, January 18, 2024, at George Boom Funeral Home and On-Site Crematory in Sioux Falls. Memorial service will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, January 19, 2024, also at the funeral home.

Interment will take place at a later date at Ashwood Cemetery in Kanaranzi, Minnesota.

Loren Wiese, son of Roney and Alma (Griesse) Wiese, was born May 6, 1935, in Rock Rapids, Iowa. He grew up on a farm in rural Rock County, Minnesota, and graduated from Luverne High School in 1953.

He entered the United States Army as a paratrooper and served until earning his honorable discharge in 1956.

Loren was united in marriage to Ruth Hickman on May 17, 1956, in Ellsworth, Minnesota. They dedicated 63 years of love and commitment to each other before Ruth’s passing in 2019.

They lived many places in Minnesota including Windom, Luverne, Red Wing, Owatonna, Albert Lea, and Winona. They retired to Sioux Falls.

Loren has been a member of Wild Flower Presbyterian Church for over 25 years. 

Loren dedicated 33 years of service to Northwest Bell which later became US West Telecommunications before his retirement in 1990. He served as Union Steward prior to becoming Union President of the Telephone Pioneers Union in Red Wing, Minnesota. He served the community as a member of the Elks Lodge, Jaycees, and was a board member of Crime Stoppers in Winona. In his spare time he enjoyed fishing and playing cards.

Left to cherish his memory are his son, David (Cindi) Wiese of Menomonie, Wisconsin; grandchildren Carly, Eve, Mark, West and Chelsea; brother-in-law Ronald Boyenga of Ellsworth, Minnesota; and extended family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Roney and Alma; his wife, Ruth; daughter Lynn Hagert; brothers Robert Wiese and Vernon (Annetta) Wiese; and sister Anita Boyenga.
