Lorain Joseph Depauw, 91, Luverne, died Friday, May 1, 2015, at the Minnesota Veterans Home in Luverne.
A funeral service was Wednesday, May 6, at St. Catherine Catholic Church in Luverne. Burial was at St. Catherine Catholic Cemetery in Luverne with full military rites presented by Dell Hogan American Legion Post #123 and Rock County VFW Post #2757.
Lorain DePauw was born May 2, 1923, to Henry and Minnie (Welvert) DePauw in rural Hardwick. After graduating from high school, Lorain served in the U.S. Army in the infantry from September 1942 to March 1946 and was awarded the Bronze Star.
On April 5, 1947, he married Audrey Jones in Luverne. After their marriage the couple lived in Luverne. Lorain worked at Backer-Goehle Hardware in Luverne for 10 years. He then worked at Luverne Fire Apparatus for more than 30 years before retiring in 1987. Lorain became a resident of the Minnesota Veterans Home on April 20, 2009.
He was a member of St. Catherine Catholic Church in Luverne and the Rock County VFW Post #2757, where he had served as Past Commander. He enjoyed fishing, camping and working with wood.
Lorain is survived by his wife, Audrey DePauw, Luverne; three daughters, Pat (Bruce) Koglin, Hermantown, Cheryl (Alan) Enger, Harrisburg, South Dakota, and Barb (Gary) Haraldson, Duluth; seven grandchildren, Tim (Griselda) Fairbanks, Carrie (Tim) Herschbach, Scott (Julie) Fairbanks, Kristie Lovro, Chad (Becky) Haraldson, Amy (Brett) Brisk and Molly Haraldson; and 15 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Gertrude Dohlman, Emma Verdick and Lucile DePauw; and four brothers, William, Albert, Marvin and Marlowe DePauw.
Memorials may be directed to the Minnesota Veterans Home in Luverne.
