Lois May Olson, 80, Luverne, died Friday, July 24, 2015, at the Sanford Hospice Cottage in Luverne.
A funeral service was Monday, July 27, at St. John Lutheran Church in Luverne. Burial followed at Memory Gardens Cemetery near Luverne.
Lois Roemeling was born Sept. 3, 1934, to Siebo and Frieda (Heiden) Roemeling in Luverne. She was baptized Sept. 7, 1943, at the First Methodist Church in Bingham Lake. On June 27, 1948, she was confirmed at St. John Lutheran Church in Luverne. She graduated from Luverne High School in 1952.
On Oct. 24, 1954, Lois married Eldon “Woody” Olson. The couple made their home in Luverne where Lois worked at Tri-State for a short time. The couple was blessed with children, and Lois stayed home to raise them. After the children were in high school, Lois became employed at J.C. Penney and worked there until the store closed. Lois was a caregiver for Woody for several years after he was diagnosed with cancer. He preceded her in death on March 27, 1988. In 2002 Lois was diagnosed with lymphoma, which she fought for 13 years.
She was a member of St. John Church where she was part of the prayer chain and circle. Lois was an avid fan of the Minnesota Twins and the Minnesota Vikings. She also enjoyed watching soap operas, game shows television dramas and playing bingo and cards.
Lois is survived by three children, Rhonda (John Williams) Olson, Boulder, Colorado, Darcy Carlson and Scott Olson, both of Luverne; a granddaughter, Serena Williams, Denver, Colorado; a sister, Sharon (Bob) Wegleitner, Billings, Montana; a sister-in-law, Ruth Roemeling, Luverne; a brother-in-law, Gene Olson, San Diego, California; and other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Woody Olson; infant twins, Bryant and Bruce Olson; a sister, Shirley Maxwell; seven brothers, Anno, Harold, Maynard, Marvin, Donald, Frank and Merle Roemeling; and six sisters-in-law, Maude, Lillian, Vernice, Helen, Doris and Dorothy.
