Linda Mae Vis, 66, Sioux Falls, South Dakota, formerly of Luverne, died Tuesday, Jan. 26, 2021, at Dougherty Hospice House in Sioux Falls.
A funeral service was at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 30, at Shalom Christian Reformed Church in Sioux Falls. Burial was in Maplewood Cemetery in Luverne.
Linda Van Santen was born on Nov. 22, 1954, to Peter and Nellie (Van Hemert) Van Santen in Hawarden, Iowa. She was baptized at Hawarden Christian Reformed Church and spent her early years there until her family moved to a farm near Lake Park, Iowa. Linda attended Ocheyedan Christian grade school and Western Christian High School until her family moved to a dairy farm north of Luverne in 1968. Linda graduated from Southwest Christian High School in Edgerton in 1972.
On May 31, 1974, Linda married Myron (Mike) Vis in Leota. They made their home in Leota for a short time before moving to Luverne in 1980. They were blessed with four boys. They lived in town for 10 years until moving to an acreage west of Luverne in 1990.
After her marriage to Mike ended in 2001, Linda moved to Brandon, South Dakota, where she began her real estate career. In 2003 she met Jim Feauto and they enjoyed a special relationship.
Linda moved to Sioux Falls in 2012 and lived there until she entered the Dougherty Hospice House on Dec. 29, 2020, after fighting ovarian cancer since June of 2018.
Linda was a member of the Shalom Christian Reformed Church in Sioux Falls at the time of her death.
To support a Christ-centered education for her sons, she worked jobs including the Mink Ranch, selling jewelry at the Diamond Center, raising calves, working as a teller at Minnwest Bank, working at Southwest Minnesota Mental Health, and later on selling real estate.
Linda enjoyed gardening, feeding and watching the birds, camping weekends, and a competitive game of Scrabble.
Later in life, she and Jim enjoyed traveling, including trips to deliver fire trucks. She treasured family gatherings and her fond memories of cabin rentals, boating excursions and Christmas by the ocean with her family.
Linda is survived by her sons, Shawn (Karmen) Vis of Luverne, Jeremy (Leanne) Vis of Sioux Falls, Michael Vis of Sioux Falls, and Alex (Sarah) Vis of Winter Park, Florida; five grandchildren, Baily, Gabriel, Cullen, Larkin and Zion; siblings Marian Schneekloth of Luverne, Marlene (John) Weinstroer of Lenexa, Kansas, Marge Briese of Hartford, South Dakota, Steve (Carla) Van Santen of Luverne, Doug (Kathy) Van Santen of Brandon, Carolyn (Tim) Diedrich of Luverne, Rick (Carrie) Van Santen of Luverne, and Lori (Gary) Serum of Champlin; and her significant other, Jim Feauto of Akron, Iowa.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers Jim Van Santen and Arvin Van Santen; and an infant sister, Betty Jean Van Santen.
Memorials are preferred to Children’s Miracle Network or Make a Wish Foundation.
