Kristy Kaye Giesler, 32, Jasper, died as the result of an accident Monday, May 11, 2015, near Jasper.
A funeral service was Monday, May 18, at Living Rock Church in Luverne. Burial was at Leota Community Cemetery.
Kristy Van Surksum was born Oct. 28, 1982, to Evert and Carolyn (Bruggeman) Van Surksum in Pipestone. She grew up in Jasper and graduated from Pipestone-Jasper High School in 2002.
She was married June 28, 2000, in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. She worked at the Good Samaritan Society – Sioux Falls Center from 2004 to 2006. On April 19, 2007, she started working for Sanford Luverne Medical Center in Luverne. In 2012 she also began working for Van Hawk Power Washing in Jasper.
Kristy was a member of Jasper Evangelical Lutheran Church, where she was baptized on April 15, 1992, and confirmed her faith in 1997. She also attended Living Rock Church in Luverne. She enjoyed photography, gardening and tending her flowerbeds, fishing, bonfires in the backyard with her kids, and being outdoors. Kristy loved cooking and trying new recipes. She enjoyed attending her son’s and her nieces’ and nephew’s events.
Kristy is survived by two children, Clay and Rylee, Jasper; her mother, Carolyn DeJongh, Jasper, and her mother’s special friend, Jim Vatne, Ihlen; seven siblings, Beth (Michael) Westerbur, Luverne, Ivan (Deb) Van Surksum, Jasper, Chad (Vanessa) Van Surksum, Luverne, Darla (Ivan) Westenberg, Sunnyside, Washington, Ruth (Rod) Corbin, Edgerton, Mavis (Mike) Hulstein, Leota, and Doug (Marilyn) Van Surksum, Bakersfield, California; her boyfriend, Kelly Bakken, and his daughter, Shanna, Volga, South Dakota; her aunts and uncles; four nieces and a nephew; and other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her father, Evert Van Surksum; and her grandparents.
