Konrad Orlan Eidahl, 86, Luverne, died Saturday, Dec. 12, 2020, at Crossroads Care Center in Worthington.
A celebration of life will be at a later date.
Konrad was born on Jan. 31, 1934, to Kenneth and Mabel (Knutson) Eidahl in Leland, Iowa. He first attended school in Lake Mills, Iowa, before graduating from Albert Lea High School. He earned a degree in education from Luther College in Decorah, Iowa. He then was drafted into the United States Army and served two years as a medical technician. He also played the French horn in the Army band in Europe before being honorably discharged.
In 1958 Konrad accepted a teaching position in Clarkfield, where he met Barbara Potter. He and Barbara were married on Sept. 3, 1961. They moved to Luverne a few years later, where Konrad taught sixth grade.
Konrad was an active member of Grace Lutheran Church in Luverne, where he served as an elder, deacon, usher and as president of the congregation in the late 1980s. Konrad was also a member of the Lions Club, the National Education Association and the Minnesota Education Association. He coached several sports and enjoyed keeping statistics for the Luverne High School basketball team. Konrad retired from Luverne Public Schools in 1992 after teaching for 34 years. Konrad’s hobbies included playing Stratomatic baseball and couples’ bridge. He loved sports, music and travel. He also worked as a DJ at KQAD in Luverne every other Sunday.
His first wife, Barbara, died in 1996. A few years later, he married Javonne Vermedahl. They lived in Emmons until her death last year.
Konrad is survived by three children, Kyle (Carol) Eidahl of Tallahassee, Florida, Pam Christensen of Luverne, and David (Lynn) Eidahl of Delano; eight grandchildren, Daniel Mann, Jessica (Lance) Amato, Cara (Justin) Muth, Stephanie (Tim) Connell, Matt Christensen, Cody Christensen, Marcus Eidahl and Christian Eidahl; three great-grandchildren; a sister, Kate Hermanson of Owatonna; and a brother-in-law, Richard Ferguson of Owatonna.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Barbara; his second wife, Javonne; his son Mark Eidahl; his son-in-law Tim Christensen; and a sister, Marcia Ferguson.
