Katherine McBride, 57, passed away on Friday, July 22, 2016, at her home surrounded by her loving family.
Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 27, at George Boom Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Sioux Falls. Family present visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Tuesday, July 26, at the funeral home with a prayer service beginning at 7 p.m.
Katherine Ann McBride (Haper) was born on June 27, 1959, in Pipestone, Minnesota, to Francis and Loretta (O’Toole) Haper. The Hapers raised their family in Luverne, Minnesota. She graduated from Luverne High School in 1977. Kathy enjoyed getting into trouble with her four siblings, cruising Main Street in her Volkswagen Bug, working at JJ’s Tasty Freeze, and venturing to Hatfield to dance the night away.
In 1980 Kathy moved to Granite Falls, Minnesota, where she obtained her clerical degree. She married Tom Austin and had two sons, Ben (1982) and Charlie (1986). Kathy later remarried Dave McBride and had one daughter, Molly (1990). She devoted 25 years of her life to selling home, auto, and life insurance, retiring in 2016.
Some of Kathy’s favorite activities included packing up the kids and heading to the lake on the weekends. You could always find Kathy with dirty hands in the garden, shooting birdies on the golf course, water skiing behind the boat, or building a bonfire.
Katherine is survived by her children, Benjamin Austin, Charles (Stephanie) Austin, Molly (Keith Fox) McBride all of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; grandchildren, Kylah Austin and William Fox; parents, Francis and Loretta Haper, Sioux Falls, South Dakota; brother, Steven (Glenda) Haper, Luverne, Minnesota; sisters, Deb Smith, Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Diane Haper, Adrian, Minnesota; sister-in-law, Deb Haper, Fulda, Minnesota, and many more family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Gary Haper.
Family requests that everyone dress in colorful summer attire for Katherine's service.
