Katherine Ann McBride (Haper) was born on June 27, 1959, in Pipestone, Minnesota, to Francis and Loretta (O’Toole) Haper. The Hapers raised their family in Luverne, Minnesota. She graduated from Luverne High School in 1977. Kathy enjoyed getting into trouble with her four siblings, cruising Main Street in her Volkswagen Bug, working at JJ’s Tasty Freeze, and venturing to Hatfield to dance the night away.
In 1980 Kathy moved to Granite Falls, Minnesota, where she obtained her clerical degree. She married Tom Austin and had two sons, Ben (1982) and Charlie (1986). Kathy later remarried Dave McBride and had one daughter, Molly (1990). She devoted 25 years of her life to selling home, auto, and life insurance, retiring in 2016.
Some of Kathy’s favorite activities included packing up the kids and heading to the lake on the weekends. You could always find Kathy with dirty hands in the garden, shooting birdies on the golf course, water skiing behind the boat, or building a bonfire.
