Jimmie Hans Lafrenz, 82, Beaver Creek, died peacefully Monday, Sept. 28, 2020, at his home.
A memorial visitation was Friday, Oct. 2, at Hartquist Funeral Home in Luverne, followed by a graveside service at Maplewood Cemetery in Luverne.
Jimmie Lafrenz was born on May 2, 1938, to Hans and Etta (Bruining) Lafrenz in Luverne. He was raised on a farm northeast of town near the Blue Mounds ridge and attended school through the eighth grade.
Jimmie then traveled into town and worked as a welder for Carl Nash for a number of years before working for Luverne Bumper Company. He enlisted in the National Guard and spent time stationed in California and Alaska. He later worked for the Rock County Highway Department in Luverne. He was promoted to shop foreman and continued to work for the highway department until his retirement. He made his home east of Beaver Creek, where he lived with his significant other, Janice Larson.
Jimmie was baptized and confirmed at Bethany Lutheran Church in Luverne. He later attended the Episcopal Church in Luverne until its closing. He enjoyed traveling, having coffee with friends and visiting people. He loved to weld stools, knives, tools and may other unique creations without being guided by plans. He also enjoyed raising alpaca, at one time having as many as 25 of them on his land.
Jimmie is survived by his significant other, Janice Larson; his sister, Wanda Kafka of Luverne; nieces Cindy (Ken) Deters and Connie Kafka, all of Luverne; two great-nieces, Cassandra (Mike) Herding and Kiara (Ryan) Heikes; several great-great-nieces and nephews; and other family and friends, including Christi Wilson and her children, Robbie and Lexi Drake.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Maynard Lafrenz.
