Jean Alderson, 74, of Ruthton, died unexpectedly on Monday, Nov. 11, 2019, at the Pipestone County Medical Center in Pipestone.
A memorial service was Saturday, Nov. 16, at St. James Lutheran Church in Holland. Inurnment was in the Holland Cemetery.
Jean Kelly was born on July 24, 1945, to John and Martha (Neiman) Kelly in Hendricks. She was baptized on Sept. 9, 1945. She grew up working on the family farm near Verdi. She attended school in Verdi, graduating from high school there.
Jean married Richard Halsne in 1963. Through the coming years she helped on the farm and raised their four children. In 1983 she began working at the Good Samaritan Village where she worked for over 23 years.
On Jan. 16, 1985, she married Bill Alderson in Brookings, South Dakota. They enjoyed dancing, camping, and snowmobiling. Jean and Bill enjoyed going south and spending time with their friends in Texas during the winter months.
Jean was a member of the Ladies’ Aid and taught Sunday school at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Lake Benton. Following her marriage to Bill, Jean became a member of St. James Lutheran Church in Holland. She loved spending time with friends and family. She enjoyed working in her flower beds, cooking, and baking. She loved attending her grandchildren’s events.
Jean is survived by her husband, Bill, of Ruthton; seven children, Randy (Judy) Halsne of Joliet, Illinois, Dave Halsne of Holland, Lori Halsne of Luverne, Scott Alderson (significant other, Dawn Johnson) of Holland, Brenda Kellen of Pipestone, Todd (Jenny) Alderson of Lake Benton, and Shelly Gylling of Holland; one brother, Pat (Joann Eldridge) Kelly of Minnesota; 22 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and many other friends and relatives.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers Emory Kelly and David Kelly; a son, Dale Halsne; a nephew, Michael Kelly; and a grandson, Justin Halsne.
