Janice Aleen Sandbulte, 89, Luverne, died Sunday, March 10, 2019, at the Good Samaritan Society – Mary Jane Brown Home in Luverne.
A funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 13, at the American Reformed Church in Luverne. Burial will follow at Maplewood Cemetery in Luverne.
Janice Den Herder was born Oct. 12, 1929, to Gerrit and Hattie (Te Grotenhuis) Den Herder in Sioux Center, Iowa. She grew up in town and graduated from Sioux Center High School in 1947.
She married James Sandbulte on Feb. 24, 1950, at the First Reformed Church in Sioux Center. The couple began farming near Maurice, Iowa. Later on, the couple moved to a farmstead six miles south of Luverne where they put down their roots, raised their eight children. Jim preceded Janice in death in June 1993. She continued to reside at their country home until moving to the Good Samaritan Society – Mary Jane Brown Home in Luverne in July of 2018.     
Janice was a member of the American Reformed Church in Luverne. She loved worshipping God and exemplified her faith further by being involved in circle, small group Bible study and serving on various committees. She was a member of the Clinton Township Extension Club. She enjoyed working in her flower and vegetable gardens and exhibited her flowers and vegetables at the county fair. She enjoyed playing cards, especially a game of Rook. She liked to take walks to the bridge and back on the nearby country road. Throughout the years she loved to attend her children’s and grandchildren’s sporting events and other activities and cheer them on. She treasured the Sandbulte family gatherings at Lake Shetek each year.
Janice is survived by her children Dave (Nyla) Sandbulte of Luverne, Janet “Sue” (Rob) Rogers of Elgin, Texas, Donn (Sue) Sandbulte of Luverne, Ned (Shelley) Sandbulte of Luverne, Gerrit Sandbulte of Beaver Creek, Norman (Tammy) Sandbulte of Bakersfield, California, Paul (Ling) Sandbulte of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, and Machelle (Jay) Hershey of Pflugersville, Texas; 28 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; and other family.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James; grandchildren Chad Lee, James Lawrence, Tina Kate and Stuart Allen; brothers Elmer, John, Gordon and Kenneth Den Herder; and her sisters Alyda DeVries and Jeanne Den Herder.
Memorials are preferred to Hope Haven in Rock Valley, Iowa.
