Jamie Mohr

Lead Summary

Jamie Allen “Lurch” Mohr, 59, Sioux Falls, South Dakota, died Thursday, Jan. 9, 2020, after a courageous six-month battle with kidney cancer.
A memorial visitation was Tuesday, Jan. 14, at George Boom Funeral Home in Sioux Falls.
Jamie Mohr was born on July 3, 1960, to Robert and Phyllis (Petersen) Mohr in Luverne.  He spent the first 10 years of his life living on a farm across the road from his grandparents, where he developed a love for the outdoors and a strong work ethic.  His family then moved to Hardwick. Jamie attended school in Luverne and graduated from Luverne High School in 1978. Following high school Jamie began his over 42-year career working for MidAmerican Energy Company in Sioux Falls.
On June 19, 1993, Jamie married Theresa Kafka-Button and her nine-year old son, Jacob, in Yankton, South Dakota. The family lived in Luverne until 2004 when they made their home in Sioux Falls.
Jamie was blessed with a great sense of humor and a quick wit. He enjoyed making people laugh, playing jokes on his friends and family, and changing lyrics to popular songs. He loved spending time on the farm, especially during harvest season, cheering on the Minnesota Vikings, playing cribbage and pinochle, listening to NPR programs, fishing, craft beer, gas station cookies, dark chocolate and his dogs.  Above all Jamie loved his family, traveling with Theresa all over the United States and visiting their favorite lighthouse in Duluth, and his father/son campouts with Jake.
Jamie is survived by his wife, Theresa Mohr, of Sioux Falls; one son, Jacob Button of Kansas City, Missouri; his mother, Phyllis Mohr of Luverne; two sisters, Valerie (Clayton) Klumper of Pipestone, and Felicia (Jack) Hanson of Luverne; his mother-in-law, Delores Kafka of Yankton, South Dakota; many nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, Robert Mohr; his father-in-law, William T. Kafka; and his grandparents, Merten and Mattie Petersen and Marie Mohr.
