Howard Eugene Emery, 86, Luverne, died Monday, May 18, 2015, at the Minnesota Veterans Home in Luverne.
A funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, May 21, at the United Methodist Church in Luverne. Burial will be at Maplewood Cemetery in Luverne with full military rites presented by Dell Hogan American Legion Post #123 and the Rock County VFW Post #2757. Visitation will be from 12:30 to 2 p.m. Thursday at the church in Luverne.
Howard Emery was born Jan. 4, 1929, to Lyle and Anna (Henningsen) Emery in Luverne. Howard graduated from Luverne High School. He served his country in the U.S. Navy Air Force from December 1950 to October 1954.
On July 14, 1952, he married Mary Helen McRobert in Luverne. Howard was stationed at Ft. Moffitt in San Jose, California. The couple lived in California while Howard was in the Navy. After his honorable discharge, the couple started farming north of Luverne. After five years they moved to a farm east of Beaver Creek. In 1971 Howard and Mary built a house north of Luverne and continued farming until 1985. The couple moved to Scottsdale, Arizona, and Howard worked for Dollar Rental Car. In 2011 the couple returned to Luverne. Howard entered the Minnesota Veterans Home in Luverne on March 16, 2015.
He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Luverne, where he had served as a trustee. He was also a member of the Masons, the Shriners, the Luverne Eagles, the Dell Hogan American Legion Post #123 in Luverne and had served as president of the Rock County Farm Bureau. Howard enjoyed golfing and fishing. He loved farming and being on the farm. 
Howard is survived by his wife, Mary Emery, Luverne; a son, Mark (Deb) Emery, Luverne; four grandchildren, Sandi Emery, Tami (Kyle) Van Heerde, Joe (friend Lexi) Emery and JayDee Emery; seven great-grandchildren; a brother, LeRoy “Buster” (Ardella) Emery, Hector; and a sister-in-law, Sara (Richard) Dorn, St. Cloud.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a son, Thomas Emery, in 1982.
