Henrietta Haak, 85, Hills, died Sunday, Oct. 11, 2020, at the Tuff Memorial Home in Hills.
A private funeral service was Saturday, Oct. 17, at the Jurrens Funeral Home in Hills. Burial followed at the United Reformed Cemetery in Hills.
Henrietta Veltkamp was born on Feb. 6, 1935, to Albert and Rolena (Moorlag) Veltkamp in Rock Valley, Iowa. She was raised in Rock Valley and attended the Christian School. She worked in the Rock Valley Bakery for five years.
Henrietta married Gerald Haak on Dec. 3, 1954, at the Christian Reformed Church in Hills. They moved to Hills, and Henrietta worked at Fikse’s Produce in Hills from 1954 to 1956. She worked part time in the Hills Locker which was owned by her husband and her brother-in-law Albert Haak. Henrietta was a homemaker and provided child care for others. After her children were grown, she began working at Tuff Memorial Home in the housekeeping department, retiring after 20 years. When Henrietta’s husband, Gerald, died on March 16, 2012, she moved to the Tuff Memorial independent apartments for a couple of years. Due to her health, she then lived in the Tuff Village assisted living for a couple of years before moving to the Tuff Memorial Home in January of 2017.
Henrietta was a member of the Christian Reformed Church of Hills and was active in the Esther Circle and Willing Workers. She also volunteered at the Christian School where she helped with the Cash for Trash program. Henrietta enjoyed crocheting names and crafts for craft shows, baking apple pies for the Farmers Market, and traveling.
Henrietta is survived by her four children, Charlene (Doug) Leuthold of Rock Rapids, Iowa, Larry (Deb) Haak and Darla (Brian) Kraayenhof, both of Hills, and Rhonda Haak (special friend Mitzie) of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; six grandchildren, Brad Haak of Hills, Derek (Erin) Haak of Brandon, South Dakota, Christopher (Erica) Leuthold of Rock Rapids, Sara Leuthold of Ellsworth, Adam Leuthold and Brent Leuthold, both of Rock Rapids, Nicole Kraayenhof of Sioux Falls, and Kaitlyn Kraayenhof of Little Rock, Iowa; three great-grandchildren, Emersen and Elliree Haak and Lucas Leuthold; and many nieces and nephews and other extended family.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters Grace Jacobsma and Jean Vande Kamp; brother Dick Veltkamp; and brother-in-law Peter Jacobsma.
