Helen Heinrich, 82, formerly of Nekoosa, Wisconsin, and Wisconsin Rapids, Wisconsin, died Thursday, July 6, 2017.
A funeral was Saturday, July 15, at the Herman-Taylor Funeral Home in Wisconsin Rapids. Burial followed at Restlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.
Helen Welzenbach was born May 6, 1935, to Arnold and Grace (Axleson) Welzenbach in Luverne. She graduated from George, Iowa, High School. After high school she attended Macalester College in St. Paul.
Helen married Howard Heinrich on June 10, 1956, in Luverne. She helped Howard open the family hardware store in Wonder Lake, Illinois, which they ran for many years. After selling the store, Helen and Howard purchased multiple mobile home parks in Illinois and Wisconsin. She continued to work outside the parks as an office professional and a Realtor in the towns of Rome and Wisconsin Rapids, both in Wisconsin. Helen and Howard went on to develop a new senior park in the town of Saratoga, Wisconsin.
Helen was very active in the community and a member of multiple bridge clubs, where she developed lifelong friendships. She enjoyed camping, pontoon rides on the river, and traveling in her motor home. She also enjoyed playing slots at the casinos. She loved reading, singing and playing the piano, and was an exceptional cook. She and Howard lived at the Enchanted Valley Ranch in Texas for almost 20 years as “snow birds.” She enjoyed her large collection of dolls.
Helen is survived by four children, Lisa (Scott) Drummond, Baraboo, Wisconsin, Mary (Kent) Brauninger, Kansas City, Missouri, Amy McCallum, Phoenix, Arizona, and Neil (Chrystal) Heinrich, Stevens Point, Wisconsin; a daughter-in-law, Cindy Heinrich, Seattle, Washington; 17 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband Howard, her son Ward Heinrich, and her parents.
