Gerhard Fikse

Gerhard Gary Fikse, 79,  formerly of Ash Creek and Luverne, died Monday, Jan. 16, 2017, in Gardnerville, Nevada, after a short illness.

A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Friday, June 23, at the Steen Reformed Church. Burial of cremains will be at the Eastside Cemetery in Steen.

Gerhard Fikse was born Feb. 5, 1938, to Dries and Henrietta (Christoffels) Fikse at Nobles County Hospital in Worthington. He grew up on a farm at the  edge of Ashcreek and attended school in Ashcreek until the eighth grade. He continued his education at Western Christian High School in Hull, Iowa, for one year. He moved with his family to a farm north of Luverne and completed his education at Southwest Christian High School in Edgerton, graduating in 1956.

In 1963 Gerhard married Lois Schoeneman. He worked road construction, was a traveling salesman, and a farmer.

The family relocated to Thornton, Colorado, in 1971. Gerhard was employed in the field of refrigeration and air conditioning.

He moved to California in 1989 and resided in San Jose and Morgan Hill. He continued working in the HVAC field and later enjoyed part-time employment washing golf carts.

Gerhard married Bernadine Gibb in December 1994. Gerhard and Bernadine moved to Gardnerville, Nevada, upon his retirement.

Gerhard was a member of the Carson Valley Methodist Church where he served as a trustee and sang in the choir. He was an avid golfer and loved bowling. He enjoyed RV traveling with the Gilroy Elks Club.

He is survived by his wife, Bernadine; a sister, Elaine (Andy) Steensma; his sons, Gary (Melissa) Fikse, Al (Kristi) Fikse and Greg (Vickie) Fikse; four granddaughters, Nicole (Jeff) Ranweiler, Sydney Fikse, Carlie Fikse, Jaydyn Fikse; two step-granddaughters Brenna Lee (Brendan Lee) and Emma Olson. He is also survived by two stepsons, Michael Gibb, Brian (Andrea) Gibb; one stepdaughter, Cheri (Jim) Hann, and their families.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Lucille and Evelyn; an infant brother; and a grandson, Tyler.
