Genevieve McClure, 87, Luverne, died Wednesday, May 13, 2015, at the Sanford USD Medical Center in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
A funeral service was Saturday, May 16, at Grace Lutheran Church in Luverne. Burial followed at Maplewood Cemetery in Luverne.
Genevieve Smook was born July 26, 1927, to Henry and Tillie (Van Essen) Smook south of Adrian. She graduated from Luverne High School in 1946.
On Jan. 25, 1947, she married John “Buster” McClure in Luverne. After their marriage the couple farmed northeast of Luverne. They moved to Luverne in 1991. Gen was a homemaker. She also worked at the Mary Jane Brown Good Samaritan Home for more than 10 years. Later she worked at the Heritage House and as a sales person at the Luverne Style Shop.
She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Luverne and the GLCW, where she had been in charge of the kitchen and rummage sales. She enjoyed embroidery and cross-stitching.
Gen is survived by four sons, Rodney (Donna) McClure, Sioux Falls, David (Martha) McClure, Colorado Springs, Colorado; Bruce (Jodie) McClure, Keystone, South Dakota; and Greg McClure, Luverne; eight grandchildren, Ben (friend, Nancy) McClure, Holly (friend, Matt) McClure, Jason (Caryn) McClure, Brandon McClure, Joy (Brian) Mueller, Jacob (Amber) McClure, Angie (Jason) Clark and Sara (friend, Brad) McClure; five great-grandchildren; and other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, John, on Nov. 1, 1995; an infant grandson, John Delbert McClure; three brothers, Harm, Herman and Harold Smook; and four sisters, Mathilda Bowen, Anna Hageman, Henrietta Ferguson and Edna Tripp.
