Gail Janet Smiens, 80, Luverne, died Wednesday, June 29, 2016, at the Edgebrook Care Center in Edgerton.
A memorial service will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, July 11, at the First Presbyterian Church in Luverne. A time of fellowship will be from 10 to 10:30 a.m. Monday at the church. Burial of cremains will be in the Maplewood Cemetery in Luverne.
Gail Stuckenbroker was born Sept. 21, 1935, to Herman and Erna (Christensen) Stuckenbroker in Luverne. She graduated from Luverne High School in 1953.
Gail married Lowell Smiens on Feb. 9, 1956, in Luverne. Except for four years in Rapid City, South Dakota, the couple lived in Luverne. Gail worked at Orey’s Café in Luverne before her retirement. She also volunteered at the Carnegie Cultural Center in Luverne after her retirement.
She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Luverne. She enjoyed playing cards, especially pinochle, and bingo. She also enjoyed doing puzzles, word finds and volunteering in the area.
Gail is survived by three sons, Bryce Smiens, Luverne; Kevin Smiens, Mankato; and Timothy Smiens, Mankato; several nieces and nephews, including Tanya (Leicher) Light, Luverne.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Lowell Smiens; an infant son, Allen; a son, Scott; and three sisters, Myrtle Leicher, Dorothy Krogmann and Lois Hanson.
