Evan VerSteeg, 71, Luverne, died Wednesday, May 19, 2016, at his home.
A funeral service was Monday, May 23, at the American Reformed Church in Luverne. Burial followed at Maplewood Cemetery in Luverne.
Evan VerSteeg was born April 5, 1945, in Sioux County, Iowa, to Vernon and Johanna (Wegter) VerSteeg. He grew up on farms in the Newkirk, Iowa, and Edgerton and Kenneth areas in Minnesota. Evan attended Kenneth Elementary School and graduated from Luverne High School in 1963.
Upon graduation Evan served his country with the Luverne National Guard Unit. Evan was a farmer throughout his life and was also employed at Terrace Park Dairy, Iowa Beef Packers and Farm Pro.
Evan was a member of the American Reformed Church in Luverne. His passion was spending time with his family. He also enjoyed gardening, fishing, quarter horses, rodeos, collecting Red Wing Pottery, Transport for Christ, and more recently, the great coffee times with friends, neighbors and family. Evan loved vacationing in Northern Minnesota with family and also cherished relationships developed with Lao friends.
Evan is survived by his wife, Twila; two sons, Tim (Na) VerSteeg, Brandon, South Dakota, and Tom (Alison) VerSteeg, Luverne; a daughter, Tami (Brian) Bergman, Luverne; five grandchildren, Cade and Lauren VerSteeg, Ross and Will Bergman, and Ty VerSteeg; and a sister, Veralyn (Don) Klosterman, Wilsonville, Oregon.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a twin brother, Elden Merle VerSteeg; and his in-laws, Elmer and Frances Drost.
