Eugene Lawrence Erlandson, 98, Adrian, died Friday, April 14, 2017, at the Minnesota Veterans Home in Luverne.
A funeral Mass was Monday, April 17, at St. Adrian Catholic Church in Adrian. Burial with full military honors provided by the Adrian American Legion was in the St. Adrian Cemetery.
Eugene Erlandson was born April 2, 1919, to Carl and Lelia (Smith) Erlandson in Worthington. He graduated from St. Adrian Catholic High School and later attended Worthington Junior College. Eugene served in the United States Army Air Corps during World War II and was one of the last survivors of Pearl Harbor. He served in Hawaii at Wheeler Air Force Base before being discharged in 1945. He returned from the service and made his home in rural Rushmore and worked for Phil Gas in Worthington.
Eugene married June Walgrave on Sept. 16, 1950, at St. Catherine Catholic Church in Luverne. The couple lived in Worthington where Eugene continued to work for Phil Gas. He later began farming in rural Rushmore. Eugene purchased the family farm and farmed until retiring and moving to the Meadows in Worthington, in 2009.
He was a member of St. Adrian Catholic Church, the Adrian Swimming Pool Board, the Adrian Lions Club, the Co-op Oil Board; the Adrian American Legion and the Luverne VFW.
Eugene is survived by his wife, June Erlandson, Worthington; five children, Gary (Kathy) Erlandson, Greenfield, Iowa; Diane (Angel) Otero, Worthington; Dale Erlandson, Sioux City, Iowa; Robert (Shirley) Erlandson, Worthington; and Donald (Robin) Erlandson, Adrian; many grandchildren; many great grandchildren; and three sisters, Eileen Kohovec, St. Louis, Missouri; Katheryn (Al) Ell, Mesa, Arizona; and Joanne (Jack) Smith, Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
He was preceded in death by his parents and four brothers, Russell, Maurice, Luverne and James Erlandson.
