Ethna Lorraine Hanson, 93, Oronoco, died Sunday, Dec. 31, 2017, at Rehoboth Adult and Elder Care in Oronoco.
A funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 5, at Michaelson Funeral Home in Kenyon. Interment will be in the Brooklyn Evangelical Free Cemetery, rural Beresford, South Dakota.
Ethna Norling was born on April 27, 1924, to Joseph and Clara (Thompson) Norling in Clay County, South Dakota. She attended country school and graduated from Beresford High School in 1942. She continued her education for one year at Rapid City School of Business.
Ethna’s first job was at Gideon International in Chicago. She then took a job at Farmers Co-op in St. Paul ans was later transferred to Sioux Falls where she met Don Hanson. She and Don were married at Brooklyn Evangelical Free Church in rural Beresford in December of 1953. They made their home in Luverne, where they operated Hanson Silo Company until retirement in 1981. They then moved to Sun City Arizona. When Don died in 1995, Ethna continued living in Arizona until 2006 when she moved to Wanamingo to be closer to family. In 2012 she moved to Rehoboth in Oronoco. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Kenyon.
She is survived by a niece, Beverly (Robert) Jacobsen of Kenyon, and a nephew, Dale Olson, of Sioux Falls, and nieces and nephews of Don.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Don; a sister, Lois Olson; a brother, Archie Norling; an infant sister, Ruby Fern Norling, and a nephew, Wayne Olson.
