Edward B. Berning, 90, Adrian, died Wednesday, Dec. 16, 2020, at the Sanford USD Medical Center in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
A funeral Mass was Saturday, Dec. 19, at St. Adrian Catholic Church in Adrian. Burial with full military honors provided by the Adrian American Legion was at St. Adrian Cemetery.
Edward Berning was born Sept. 10, 1930, to Henry and Louise (Farwick) Berning in Lismore. He graduated from Lismore High School. He served his country in the United States Marines during the Korean Conflict.
Ed married Dolores Konz on Aug. 17, 1954, at St. Adrian Catholic Church in Adrian. The couple farmed by Wilmont for 12 years. In 1967 they moved to Adrian, and in 2015 they moved to their apartment in Adrian on Tennessee Avenue.
Ed was a member of St. Adrian Catholic Church and the Adrian American Legion. He enjoyed playing cards, traveling to casinos with Dolores, dining at the Luverne Pizza Ranch, playing slots on his iPad, and especially spending time with his family.
Ed is survived by his children, Doug (Willy) Berning of Adrian, Diane (Dave) Banck of Luverne, and Larry “Kono” (Tess) Berning of Adrian; five grandchildren, Bryan Banck, Tim (Becky) Banck, Kelly (Rory) Witt, Jeremy (Alesha) Berning and Aaron (Dianne) Vander Plaats; eight great-grandchildren; two brothers, Alvin Berning of Luverne and Jim Berning of Owatonna; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Dolores, on March 22, 2017; grandson Jason Berning; an infant brother, Raphael; a brother, George Berning; two sisters, Lorraine Van Peursem and Marie Smeins; a brother-in-law, Myron Smeins; and two sisters-in-law, Gert and Rita Berning.
