Dwayne L. Christensen, 72, Luverne, died Thursday, April 30, 2015, at his home.
A funeral service was Monday, May 4, at St. Catherine Catholic Church in Luverne. A private family burial of cremains will be at a later date.
Dwayne Christensen was born Oct. 19, 1942, to Lester and Josephine (Rensch) Christensen in Ellsworth. He graduated from Magnolia High School. He started his truck driving career when he was 14 years old.
On Sept. 16, 1961, he married Becky Skattum at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Ellsworth. After their marriage they moved to Kanaranzi where Dwayne worked with his father in the family trucking business. When he was 23, Dwayne took over the family trucking business when his father died.
In 1979 the family moved to Magnolia and he continued to truck as well as own and operate the Mobil gas station in Luverne. He was also part-owner of the truck wash in Luverne. They moved to Luverne in 1982, and Becky got her CDL license. They started driving truck together, making four trips a month to California for many years. They worked together until Dwayne had health problems in 2014. He entered home hospice care on April 17, 2015.
He was a member of St. Catherine Catholic Church in Luverne. He enjoyed driving truck. They took every one of their grandchildren with them on separate trucking trips. He also enjoyed collecting guns, watching NASCAR racing, bowling and snowmobiling. He loved animals of all kinds, especially dogs and horses.
Dwayne is survived by his wife, Becky Christensen, Luverne; four children, Amy (Barry) Cowell, Todd (Mary) Christensen, Tim (Pam) Christensen, and Sue (Chad) VerSteeg, all of Luverne; 14 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; a sister, Nyla (Don) Bullerman, Adrian; and many other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; infant twin sons, Pat and Mike Christensen; and a sister, Verla.
