Douglas Wayne Schmidt, 87, Rigby, Idaho, died Wednesday, Nov. 4, 2015, in Rigby.
Douglas Schmidt was born April 13, 1928, to Harvey and Grace (Cleveland) Schmidt, Edgerton. He graduated from Edgerton High School and attended the agriculture college at the University of Minnesota around 1948-49.
In 1950 he married Ardath Wohlford. They moved to Ft. Hood, Texas, for Douglas’ Army service in during the Korean War. Later they lived in various places, Wichita, Kansas, Ironton, Two Harbors and Bemidji, while Douglas taught music. He worked his father’s farm by Edgerton while raising four children. In 1970,they left the farm to purchase the A&W Drive-In in Luverne. In 1979 Ardie and Doug divorced. Doug ran Smooky’s Pizza in Luverne until he sold it. In 1982 he met June Sandberg and moved to her farm outside Pipestone where they lived for 33 years. They enjoyed traveling, fishing, camping and spending the winters in McAllen/Edinburg, Texas.
Douglas is survived by June Sandberg, Lake Benton; four children, Terry, Dallas, Texas, Randy, Luverne, Eloise, Prescott, Arizona, and Harvey, Rigby, Idaho; 14 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Janis.
