Douglas Allen ‘Doug’ Bork, 59, rural Beaver Creek, died unexpectedly on Sunday, Feb. 28, 2021, at his home.
A public visitation was Friday, March 5, and a private family service was Saturday, March 6, at Hartquist Funeral Home. Burial followed at Maplewood Cemetery near Luverne.
Douglas Bork was born on July 21, 1961, to Orville and Barbara (Bruxvoort) Bork in Luverne. He was the oldest of four children and spent his childhood years with his family on various farms throughout Rock County. He was baptized at Luverne Christian Reformed Church, attended grades K-8 at Hills-Beaver Creek School and then graduated from Southwest Christian High School in Edgerton in 1979. He helped farm for a few years and in 1982 embarked on a road trip to California with friends that ended up lasting over 1 1/2 years and included working on a dairy farm. Doug returned to the family farm between Luverne and Beaver Creek and started farming. He later bought his own acreage near his parents’ home place and farmed.
On April 4, 1992, he married Marcia Swank in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. The couple lived on Doug’s acreage. In addition to farming, Doug worked for 12 years in real estate with Town & Country and Keller Williams Realty in Brandon, South Dakota, and four years until the present as a dispatcher for Blachowske.
Doug loved the outdoors and horses from old-time farming to homestead days – he liked bareback riding, taking trail rides and buggy rides. He enjoyed going to the “Point” for camping, fishing, bowling, playing darts, studying history and ancestry as well as stopping in to browse at antique stores. Doug loved to shop for his nieces and nephews for Christmas.
Doug is survived by his wife, Marci, of Beaver Creek; children James Swank of San Diego, California, and Eric (Elizabeth) Bork of Rockport, Texas; his parents, Orv and Barb Bork of Luverne; siblings Wendy (Patrick) Hathaway of Storm Lake, Iowa, and Nicholas (Annie) Bork of Luverne; sister-in-law Mary (Randy) Bork-Sawyer of Story, Wyoming; and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his brother Brian Bork and his grandparents.
