Dorothy Mae Feeken, 78, Comfrey, died Tuesday, Sept. 8, 2015, at her home in Comfrey.


A funeral service was Saturday, Sept. 12, at New Hope Lutheran Church in Comfrey. Burial was at New Hope Lutheran Cemetery.

Dorothy Schmidt was born May 20, 1937, to Herman and Thelma (Tokheim) Schmidt in Luverne. She grew up on the family farm and graduated from Luverne High School. She worked as a bank teller in Luverne and Hopkins.
On Dec. 12, 1964, she married Ron Feeken. They then moved to a farm in Comfrey. Over a 35-year career she provided in-home assistance to nearly 100 elderly individuals, allowing them to remain independent in their homes by doing whatever they needed to maintain a high quality of life. 


She was a member of New Hope Lutheran Church in Comfrey. There she taught Sunday School, served as president of Ladies Aid, was a church treasurer, and member of the Ruth Circle. She was a member and past president of the Albin Johnson Post of the American Legion Auxiliary. Following the 1998 tornado she worked in the Salvation Army disaster relief office. She enjoyed baking, crocheting, sewing, quilting and gardening — particularly strawberries.
Dorothy is survived by her husband, Ron Feeken, Comfrey; a daughter, Alana, of Clive, Iowa, Grace and Becca; a son, Neal (Jennifer), Bloomington, Anna; and son, Daniel, Brandon, South Dakota, Sabrina, Isaiah, and Luke.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Howard Schmidt, an infant brother, Robert Schmidt, a sister-in-law, Lucille (Feeken) Herrig, and brothers-in-law Roy Feeken and Orville Hanson.
Memorials may be directed to Compassionate Care Hospice Foundation or the New Hope Lutheran Church Organ and Music Fund.
